So then i ran the power wire from the alt to the soloniod on the fender..guess thats no good huh? I should take it off and go straight to the battery, that could explain the surging i have every once in a whille when i kick my fan on at idle!!

Huh? That is how it is done by most folks (new 4 AWG cable from the ring terminal shank on the back of the 3G to the solenoid).

As Sportin' Life once said "It aint necessarily so"...

The starter solenoid is just as good a place if your cables are in good shape. That means OEM type cables and none of the type that clamp the wire onto the battery terminal. Those are trouble waiting for corrosion to strike.

The 10"-12" of OEM cable is not a problem if it is in good shape. It is electricaly the same connecting to the battery side of the starter solenoid as it is to the positive battery terminal.

4ga wire from the 3g output post,to a 175 Mega Amp fuse, then to the solenoid.
Don`t forget the fuse.
