I have done a search and read alot, but not really finding what I need. I have a 1965 C4 trans and I am installing a late model 5.0 engine. Just got my tranny rebuilt with shift kit and stall converter. I had hoped to reuse my original bell housing with a TCI 157 tooth 50 oz flexplate I bought. My tranny shop was not able to get a 2200 range stall converter in the early smaller size, so I went with the bigger sized converter like a '74 up car. I have a 50oz 164 tooth balance flexplate (Explorer) and spacer already, but am unsure which bell housing I need. I assume any 74 or newer C4 will work ? thanks for any help ! Anyone that has the one I need for sale, please LMK !

I just did the same thing. You will need a 157 tooth 50oz flywheel with a 10.5 bolt patter to fit the 5.0. This will allow you to bolt it all up. you can get them from Summit and from Mustangsplus. Good luck.

Richard.

As long as the converter bolts up to the 164 tooth flexplate, you're OK there, you just need a 164 tooth bell and matching block spacer plate. Just make sure the bell you choose bolts up to the C-4 you have. There were about 3 different bolt up configurations for the bell on C-4's & 5's. I don't see why you couldn't locate a stall converter for the smaller flexplate, they're not that unusual. Any 164 tooth bell will bolt up to any 65-2001 small block Ford. Pattern is the same as the 157 tooth bell. Only difference is the starter location and larger internal dimensions.
