I have installed a T5 from a 2001. The donor car had a 6 cyl. I used a 157 tooth rebalanced flywheel. The bell housing off the 2001 bolted right up to my 289. I cannott find a starter to work. The starter does not engage, it seems the bendix is to small, it just free spins. There is a gap between the bendix and the flywheel. Any ideas?

Thanks

The SN95 bellhousings are deeper than the earlier versions (Foxbody) in order to place the shifter in proper relation to the trans tunnel, and the input shaft is longer. This may be putting your starter too far away from the flywheel.....

I'm almost positive that the v6 stangs all use the t5 transmission and the v8 models all have the t45 trans. What I've read about the v6 t5 is that there is electronic crap that makes the swap difficult, but beyond that, I know nothing more about them.

About your starter problem, try looking for a fox mustang t5 bellhousing. I used one on mine and my old starter worked. At first it would catch and engage, but not fully recoil and it ground on the flywheel. Then I got a spacer for the starter and I haven't had a problem since.
