1968 Convertible top trim removal

I am new to this forum and have what I hope is a quick question. I am having trouble getting the trim piece that goes between the top and the quarter panel and trunk area off. A body man told me that I would have to basically remove all the parts that seal the top to the body. This doesn't sound right to me. Any ideas?
