Wow, the value of classic Mustangs is pretty high. That's a lot for a basket case w/o even a motor or trans.

Thanks for the link Bryan!

I don't know, 4k seems a tad steep for a car that needs that much, GT or not. I mean tha salvage on mine was 3k and the car was 100% complete and 90% in-tact. Considering the area and those snow tires on it I have to think there is even more rust then led to believe. Now if it was a 428 GT in that condition, that might be a different story!!!!!

Pak,

In one of the Mustang mags, there was an article on a 69 CJ rag, Gold in color. Did you see it?

Well, not that bad, besides if I brought home a third car the wife would leave me for sure, I feel much better about modding my plain jane considering the route I'm going these days, thanks though!

Dan, hell yes I saw it, in a post on Brads site though, not the mag itself. Man what a car, even in that gold color.

Wow, I feel rich... that makes my GT worth about $50,000. I saw that auction when it first started, and I would probably own the car right now if I wasn't 2,000 miles away. Considering the price of mustangs today, $4,000 really isn't a bad deal, especially considering the fact it was a GT and had a ton of options. I'm planning on buying a '66 fastback 4-speed for $7,000 thats in pretty rough shape. I feel dumb paying that much, but like that GT convertible, where else are you gonna find one? A few years back I found a guy with (among other things)three '69 convertible GT's, and one was all black w/ a 4-speed. I considered buying them, but I was messing around with early Ford and GM stuff at the time and really didn't know much about '69 mustangs (I had a hipo '66). The cars had been sitting in a Michigan junkyard and were totally rusted out. I also found a green '69 GT convertible about 2 years ago. The car was rusty and had been sitting for years. I would work out a price with the guy and come back the next week to pay him and he would raise the price $500 (he did this to me on a few cars). Usually the guy was half drunk and had no idea what he was doing. After about a year, I went back to work a deal out and found he had parted the car out. Everything was stripped off, and the back end had been cut apart. Anyway, those are the only GT convertibles I have ever seen... aside from the show pieces and the one I bought.

Personally I'm less interested in the collectible versions. If I had one of those, I wouldn't want to drive or modify it. Makes it a lot less fun, the best parts of the hobby to me are the upgrades and doing the work myself.

I am glad that some people are into restoring the cars and taking better care of them than I do, though. Means there will always be some around.

well mine is not going to be anywhere near stock, but everything i do to it will be easily reversible except the paint and interior. i absolutely hate lime gold paint and ivy gold interiors. since i've had the car for over 20 years now and i don't foresee sellint it any time soon it doesn't really matter anyway.

That's pretty much how I feel, not that is completely sacraligious to mod a more collectable model but I would be uncomfortable driving a real rare one, I have always felt that way but even more so since my accident. I thought being careful enough would help to avoid every situation but obviously not. I can't imagine selling but I would hope that I do not outlive the car and so I'm more of a temporary keeper of history than the owner in my eyes. I think Bnickels case is a prime example of being more than OK to do what you want when you have owned the car that long though. Better to stay in his caring hands then to end up with Lord knows who doing Lord knows what to it jsut so he could enjoy a slight change of pace.
