Hey guys,
Well I'm new to this Mustang deal, I've been a Ford trucker for a while, but decided to go on and get a Mustang. Friend of the family was selling his 1970 Grande for a decent deal, and I figured I'd grab it. It's got the 351c motor, and is pretty much stock all the way around. The more and more I read, I'm not sure where to put my money, approximately 1500 dollars, to make this car something more fun. My guesses so far were:

3.55 Gears (Probably on ebay beings it's the cheapest)
Posi for the rear
Holley Street Avenger 670cfm
Intake Manifold (Need Suggestions)
Headers (I've only seen these made by Hooker I believe)

Now, I've seen online sub-frame connectors and trac bars. How much will these increase the handling of my Mustang?

Most of the exhaust/intake manifolds are for the 4v heads, and well obviously the porting doesn't match up. Any suggestions on good places to shop for 2v parts?

What else would you guys do, and what kind of HP numbers would I be looking at in the end? Ballpark figures of course.

Just another Newbie,
Carlo

Sounds like a fun project !
1st ...put in the 3.55 gears & Trak-Loc rear (that's "Posi" in Chevy talk). You will immediately notice the car feels much faster.
2nd...Edelbrock makes a 4V Intake to fit the 2V heads.... get one (part# 2750).
3rd .... the Holley Street Avenger 670 is a good choice, but don't go bigger. You may get better throttle response from a 600cfm Carb.
4th .... Headers.... Gotta love the sound and they will help your heads breathe more towards their full potential which = more power. You have lotsa choices.. you want a 1 5/8" dia tube header. The are made by Hooker (Holley), and one of the best headers on the market are from Ford Powertrain Applications (FPA) check out www.fordpowertrain.com these aren't the cheapest but they fit better and they tuck up nicely underneath so they won't hit every speed bump like others do, and they are the easiest to install (important).

You make all these Mods, and you will like the results, but think about installing a mild aftermarket Cam/Lifters & Valve Springs at the same time, to really wake-up your new breathing potential.
A good Cam grind to use might be like this one from Crane http://www.cranecams.com/?show=brow...351C C.I.&partNumber=133042&partType=camshaft
Part# is 272 H10 grind #133042
Nothing too radical... nice and torquey.

I'd be glad to help you, so post away !

Thanks already...

I was worried about the 670 being too big. I heard it was just at the verge of being too big, and I think I might go with a 600. Now, as for the headers, there are plenty on Ebay for quite cheap, and being's I'm trying to put the interior back together at the same time, I am somewhat price oriented. Will any 351C set of headers work so long as I get the right size tube?

As far as the Trak-Loc, how much will one set me back for the 9 inch, combined with the gears. Will it hurt to buy used? There's a local guy willing to put them in with me for 75 dollars, but is it worth it? I'm pretty competent, but I've just never done it before.

For initial startup, I have a 4150 carb off an F-150, so I can get my intake, and wait to decide on a carb at a later time. I've heard you dont see too much of a performance increase with the 4bbl setup, could this possibly be true?

I'd definitely want to do the cam setup, but if it will set me back anymore than say $300 initially, I'm gonna wait until the end of August.

Thanks so much I'm really itching to get this thing going,

Carlo

I have a 351C 2V with that exact combo of edel manifold and 600cfm holley, i recomend it for you. i was scared to try headers in my 70 because the space with that motor in there is tight.
