Hey everybody,

I bought a 72 Conv w/302. It runs pretty damn well, needs a new top, floor pans and trunk pan with some quarter work I can patch. Should I remove the top myself? I have heard that installing these tops are a freakin nightmare. Does anyone know the avg cost it would be to have someone put in the new sheet metal? I am not a welder, but after that I can do all the rest.

THANKS!

J

I installed a new top myself (with folding glass window) and it looks great. It takes plenty of patience but the actual process is straightforward. Be sure to replace your tack strips and constantly check your top alignment before stapling it down. There should be existing threads that will guide you through the process.

One good thing about the recession is that labor is A LOT cheaper. It shouldn't be hard to find someone that will weld in your floor and trunk for under 1k.
