I have a 1986 Mustang with the NON Cruise Control Steering wheel, and when i bought the car the horn didnt work so the owner put a horn button about the steering colum so it could pass inspection but it looks like crap and im sick of it lol. i took off the center of the Steering wheel, and the wires for the horn are hooked up correctly, does anybody know what the problem could be? am i going to have to buy a new Steering Wheel Center (horn pad)?

That's not a whole lot of information to go on...

If I remember correctly, there's a spring loaded contact that rides on a hub inside of the steering wheel. That spring can become weak or even break. Check it out and replace it with another. You may have to scavenge that part from either a donor car or find a spring from something that is totally unrelated of about the same size and shape, to replace it with.

It's been so long since I've looked in there that I honestly could not tell you. I'm sure that someone will come along that can provide you with the answer you require.

Here's another bump for you.

Ford makes a service manuals for cars. It's a VERY good idea to get one. Of course, ~5% of the info in the service manual is WRONG!! Yes, it's SO HARD for those F******** MORONS to fix OBVIOUS MISTAKES that occur YEAR after YEAR after Year.

The point? Those M****** F****** B****** L******* A******* tech writers almost made me destroy my center horn piece. For an 86, you push the center horn section in, and TURN the center "button". It pops right out. Of course, the POS 86 Ford Service Manual says to "pry off the center rubber cover".

Thankfully, there's the net and helpful people.

Once more: Those M****** F****** B****** L******* A******* tech writers almost made me destroy my center horn piece. ^%&#^$*&$*

Then, check the back of the T on the steering wheel. If you see bolts, screws, take them off. That's how it is on my '86 T-bird. If you don't see any screws on the back of the "T", then try to pry the rubber up along the edges. According to the POS Ford service manual, that's what you do. Of course, they had it COMPLETELY wrong for my car.

In general, there are either screws on the back of the "T", or by prying up the rubber cover.
