It's alot of work, but nothing more than a driveline swap into any other vehicle.

Really depends on what the 60's stang has in it right now.

Not so much a problem, it's just that if the classic stang is a V6, you'll want/need to upgrade to V8 suspension. Meaning more work and money.

Keep the 60's suspension stuff. It's pretty much the same thing anyway.

I have been working on a 70 f/b I bought from the original 78year old lady owner in Alpine CA desert country that had original everything including the radio & paint and I have finally got it on the road with most of the bugs out. I bought a 1993 GT Mustang parts car and took its goodies and put them in the 70. I LOVE IT!!! It is much more involved than a regular swap though because you will be dealing with a computer, high pressure fuel lines, etc... You will need to contact Ron Morris at www.ronmorrisperformance.com and call him on the phone when you get ready to dump about many thousands of $$ into it to do the job right. You will want to go through the engine, buy a Ford Motorsport wire harness (200.00) Hydraulic clutch or cable clutch set up (Mustangs Unlimited or Ron Morris) custom trans bracket, custom headers, transfer old oil pan to new engine, etc...(same sources) update the suspension with new springs, sways, joints, etc... Leave the 8" or 9" rear in it and put a "PowerTrax" street locker in it (I love mine) with a good gear... you get the idea - once you start you can't stop!!!

I don't see why it has to if you already have a complete parts car. The engine swap won't be too incredibly expensive. Budget about $800.

But if your doing a complete restoration... it ain't cheap. I'm scared to add up the receipts I have for my car.

I have about 30,000.00 invested in my car including car purchase for 7k, shipping, parts, etc... restored it all.... When you go swapping in 5.0 stuff you will need to use JBA shorty headers (450.00) cable clutch or hydro clutch system (300.00) trans bracket (100.00) custom cut exhaust for 02 sensors (200.00) different speedo cable (50.00) computer sensor eliminators of various kinds (100.00) Replace or cut drive shaft and adapt yolk (100.00 cut or junkyard stuff) Oil pump pickup/pump, change out oil pan gasket, change out dipstick(75.00), figure out the wires or buy a MotorSport harness (200.00) High pressure electric fuel pump (200.00), High pressure fuel line (100.00) etc.... Talk to Ron Morris and/or browse his site - EVERYTHING he does WORKS RIGHT! Don't half way do it or you will be a rolling time bomb waiting to catch fire from leaking high pressure fuel or electrical/computer problems - but figure on doing all the work yourself and using as much parts car stuff as possible and you can easily spend 1500-2000.00 on converting. BEEN THERE - DONE THAT! But I LOVE IT!!!!!! You will never regret it if you do it to a SOLID car that you plan on keeping for a long time - Don't waste your time and money on rust buckets to do this to - it is just too involved. Good luck - I do not mean to discourage I just mean to let you know what you are getting in to because I thought the same way you did 5 years ago when I started this project. Now I am reaping the rewards and loving it but I budgeted the money for it and had no wife or kids when I started.

any clean classic mustang is worth 3 grand - just make sure how solid it really is by getting under the car with a light and poking around - don't be afraid to pull up the carpet and padding to check the floors - look for patches, welds, heavy undercoat, etc... check the torque boxes, rails - all of them, shock towers, inside the trunk - look at the wheel houses and lower quarters etc... I personally like the 6cyl 3spd cars because they usually mean that it has not been abused and the owners were older and could afford garages to put them in. In NJ there is a huge rust problem so be careful on any old car up there especially. I am hoping you are getting it from an older original or second owner that has kept it covered mostly and not driven in that salt up there. I cannot stress enough the value of a desert area car if you are going to spend some bucks and plan on keeping it.
