The flyweel is "keyed" to be installed in only one way. It is not clockable.

The distance center to center of these two holes is different.

It could however, have been manufactured out of balance. So could your clutch and pressure plate for that matter.

You did not mention (or I've missed it) if this is a stock motor that's not been rebuilt of rebalanced to either zero or 28 oz. Take a good look at the old flywheel and ensure that it's a 157 tooth 50oz imbalanced flywheel. Also take a good look at the harmonic balancer and ensure that's it's not shifted or distorted. Call around to some shops in your area and see if there is anyone that is able to check the balance of your flywheel and clutch as an assembly.

Good Luck!

Exactly..the holes of the flywheel, without having it in front of me, may appear to be the same distance apart, but they actually are not. Once they are all lined up, you are done.

Ok. I had it in the car and it bolted down. All the way down. And if that was the only way that it would go, then one of these are out of balance, wouldn't you say? The flywheel or the pressure plate has to be out of balance.

You either have to correct flywheel/clutch but it's out of balance (defective)..thus u need a new one....OR

You have purchased flywheel that is not the correct balance for you application

If your old piece was 50oz then your new one is. You will NOT be able to "guess" at an alternative imbalance without having your entire rotating assy balanced.

It's MUCH more likely that one or more of your new parts is not up to specification or that some other portion of your rotating assembly is fubar that you've not yet discovered.

Get the balance of the flywheel checked! Most machine shops that are able to resurface a flywheel will be able to balance check it. Your clutch assy should all be zero balanced and once again... take a good look at the harmonic balancer on the front of the block and ensure it is in good shape and properly installed.
