1993 Mustang K&N Filter Cleaning Question

I cleaned and oiled my K&N panel filter.
I oiled it this morning from the dirty side as instructed. I can still feel oil on the back side of the filter this afternoon. I oiled it lightly . Is this normal?

Did you clean it before oiling it?

Yes there should be signs the oil fully saturated the filter, but it should not be dripping through as this is a sign of overoiling. I always hate dealing with cleaning these filters - it never feels like you are doing it right and it is no wonder the MAF sensors get covered in the oil, even if you use exactly the right amount.

Wait 20 minutes for the oil to be absorbed into the filter media. Inspect the clean side of the filter for any areas that are lighter in color. Touch up these areas in the media by applying oil to the dirty side of the filter. Continue oiling procedure until there is an even red color over the entire surface of the clean and dirty side of filter.

It seemed like I had too much oil on it, so I recleaned it, and oiled it real lightly, let it sit for a while and touched it up. What a hassle!!!!
Is the K&N that much better than a paper filter?

K&N Air Filter Cleaning Instructions

This is exactly why I avoid using a K&N or other oiled air filter on a MAF-controlled car. Even new out of the box, the oil will migrate onto the MAF wires, gather every tiny bit of fine dirt that still passes through the K&N filter, and it screws up its readings. Rather than pulling the MAF out on a weekly or monthly basis, I just run a standard paper filter most of the time and save the K&N for track-only use.

On a speed-density or carb'ed car, I see no problems with using them full-time. (Which reminds me, I still need one for my '84...)
