A 1995 Probe with a Mazda RX-7 engine? That sounds very wrong to me. I'm not saying it's not true, but i doubt it would be a swap that is easily done. I believe the RX-7 has a rotary engine.
Anyways, to answer your question somewhat. A Mazda RX-7 should beat you. A Ford Probe should not. Your buddy's car...I have no idea.

I agree..I've never heard of a Mazda engine in a Probe. I'm not calling , but I"d have to see that one for myself. As far as your chances in a race, StangRidah got it right on. RX-7 will beat you, a Probe will (should) not.

Well, the RX-7 motors depends on the year, but if it is street legal, than its at least a 1995 engine, so judging from that, I would have to say props for the probe, should beat you. I'm kinda curious as to this setup as well, do you think you could possibly post soem pics of his engine compartment?

Mazda and ford since the early 90's have been in together on making cars. Like escorts equivalent to protege... rx7 and ford probes(there was also another mazda more like the probe, can't remember its name..). I own an 88 escort when ford still made them, in 89 i believe Mazda manufactured motors starting going in escort. They really got involved in the ninety's though with the 1.8 DOHC, rare escort with like 200 hp. the mazda 1.8 had nothing near what they made for ford. LOL. anyways getting off topic. I have seen lots of people even where i live with mazda motors in there ford probes, mostly the newer ones. And in all actuality, I think the probe would win unless you get nitrous,SC, or some serious mods.

he has no idea how to drive.

I know Mazda made some of the Ford engines. But an RX-7 engine, to my knowledge is a rotary engine. As far as I know Probes only had 4 cylinder, and V6 engines while they were produced.

Very true, they did have fours and sixes. Just the mazda Rotary engine is capable of going into the probes without to much modding. Thats all I was tryin to say. kind of got into a history lesson in the process...

I've seen it before, thats the only reason why i believe it. not trying to create any argument.

Oh yeah, it was the MX-6 turbo motor which is more common swap in the probes. just remembered. LOL.

yea the b6t motor which is the turbocharged precursor to the 1.8 dohc you were talking about
Im thinking of picking up a xr2 capri for a beater to mess with if i can get one for like 500

weren't the rotaries rwd and the probes fwd? He would have needed to swap out the comps as well to do the swap

My sister has a 94 probe gt and it has a mx-6 mazda motor from the factory with a 5-speed. I couldn't tell you how well it runs - she won't let me touch it and she doesn't drive it too hard. I think they have like 200-250 hp, but im not claiming to be an expert. It's a 2.5L V6 that revs pretty high. Hope this helps.

The Probe shares drivetrain and chassis with the Mazda MX-6. Basically, the same car with different bodywork.

The RX-7 is a completely different beast. Rear wheel drive, rotary engine, etc...

It's probably the MX-6 engine. So to answer your question. It should be a close race. He does have advantage with the manual tranny, but you have more torque.
