I found a 1997 Mustang GT for sale. It's a copper color which the guy says is stock. I haven't seen it before, but it probably was stock. It has black leather interior and a 5-speed. Shes got 146,000 miles, but it runs good. No squeeks, good clutch, tranny shifts well, no leaks, and the interior looks GREAT. It's got the CD player, but not sure if it's the premium sound or not. Unfortunately, it's got these CHEAP ass wheels on it and balding tires. The stock wheels look 1000 times better than these POS's do. I priced it according to the KBB and it said it would usually sell for $5800. He said he will take $4,500. Does this sound like a good price? The interior and exterior are all in excellent shape, only ding on the car is on the driver side quarter panel. There is a small dent about the size of a nickel.

Can anyone tell me if the '97 4.6s were worth a crap? I know this one runs pretty strong and it's all stock. But, what are they using on the 99+ 4.6s to get more power than the 96-98 4.6s? Thanks!

The differences in the motor are heads cams and intake but other than that they are a very strong motor.

I have a 96GT and it hauls pretty good. The only real differences between a 96-98 and a 99+ are the intake manifold, cylinder heads, exhaust manifolds, and rear gear ratio. A 99+ hs freer flowing cylinder heads and less restrictive intake and exhaust. More air = more juice. The stock gears in my 96 were 2.73's, sad. i put 3.73's in and she has pretty good snap now. The best upgrade for $ you can do to the 97 would be gears. It will generate a noticable difference. I am getting my car back tomorrow after getting 2004 heads, intake manifold, Mac long tube headers and a prochamber mid pipe installed. This combined with my gears is going to make my ride haul some serious tail! I am going to go LT1 hunting at the track! If you want to spend some cash you can make the 97 go. With 146K you would be asking a lot out of the stock short block though. If you decide to purchase this stallion try 3.73 gears or 4.10's. You'll like em. Have fun!

Definetly go with some gears. I would say 4.10 IMO. Anyway with that many miles I would just drive as is except maybe for some bolt-ons (exhaust) and save up to put a PI engine in it.

I've seen a copper colored '97 around here. For $4,500 I think it's a decent deal since everything except the wheels and tires are in great shape. I just bought a '94 V6 vert for my daughter for $3,800. It has 110,000 miles on it. They were asking for $4,500 but I talked them down. I'll bet you could talk him down a bit more because of the wheels/tires.

Thanks for the info guys. It's much appreciated.

Does anyone know where I can get a set of the stock 17" wheels? And how much I would expect to pay for them. I think they look good for stock wheels. They are the same ones as these.

Nope its Autumn Orange. Only 1519 made in that color. Tangerine was a 1996 color.

Actually, I think it's closer to the "Aztec Gold".
http://bradbarnett.net/mustangs/timeline/94-98/97/aztecgoldGT.jpg

They only produced 1135 in Aztec Gold.

Just look for a decent set of 99+heads on ebay and have them checked by a machine shop and then have them installed with longtubes and 4.10 gears and you are all good to go.

They only made 800 tangerine orange mustangs. They also came with 3.27 which is the same gear in the new ones. But like everyone said put some gear and buy a whole PI motor.

Try eBay for wheels. That's if you want the stock split 5-spoke 17"ers.

TNstanggurl, that's alright. I actually think it's Aztec Gold. And I'm not too sure about the color just yet. Ehhh...

I heard about another Mustang now, but it's a '89 GT Vert with a 5-speed. It's supercharged and they wan't abot 5k for it. Only thing is, I don't care for verts. I am going to do some more checking and stuff.
