Heyy dudes!

I am pretty new to the site and just recently purchased my Red 98 GT 5 speed. I currently have the American Muscle CAI, MSD ignition upgrade kit, and Jegs o/r H-pipe. With the NPI heads, would you guys suggest gears as my next mod? What about a PI intake manifold? can these be bolted up to NPI heads?

Also, After installing the o/r h pipe, the check engine light came on. I expected this after reading reviews, Instead of ordering MIF's or whatever they are called, will a bama tune get rid of the light?

Thanks guys.

Sorry i posted this in the talk section. i meant to post in tech

Good first mods! SCT will remove the cel. We have a few bad non-pi cars on this site and im sure they will chime in. Gears are a good choice. As are sub frame connectors. What are your goals for the car?

is the car an auto or a 5 speed? A short shifter is a must if it is a five speed, gears will really wake the car up as well.

Well my goal is to have a quick street car that can hold its own from stop light to stop light. Oh and to also beat my fatherrs 95 GT 5-speed. Same color...the cars are almost identical except for the rims. and badges. He has almost every bolt on for it except for gears. It is my daily driver and i want good reliability. Ill post pics of my father's car and mine together, oh and mine is a 5 speed also. Any experience with Hurst billet plus shifters? one in town for 200 bucks

Oh, How hard are cam swaps on these cars? Would a cam swap on NPI heads yeild respectable gains? Thanks again folks

Save some money and do a PI head and cam swap! You will like the extra bump in compression!

+1. I just completed my PI head swap last month on my 96 GT convertible. Great power gains, especially above 4K rpm. With the compression bump you will have to run 93 octane though, but since my car is not a DD it hasn't really affected my wallet, but is something you need to consider since your car is a DD. Best bang for the buckmod I've done. I would also recommend gears as well. Good luck!!

96 GT conv. - PI head swap, VRS x-pipe, magnaflow cat back, CAI, 70mm tb, SCT tune, H&R SS springs, Tokico blues, MM cc/plates, X2 balljoints, steeda bump steer kit, King cobra clutch, Fidanza aluminum flywheel, 3.73 gears, 17x9 & 17x10.5 bullitts

I did the PI intake and 3.73's and I love it. Yes you can install the PI intake on NPI heads with some extra work (not hard at all). From what ive read it yields about a 15-17 rwhp gain.

Im looking into an o/r pipe now.

Doing a PI intake and cams will result in about a 30rwhp increase. More with a tune.

I would pass on this. Hurst shifters are nice (I liked the one I had in a previous car) but you can find a Pro 5.0 or Steeda tri-ax for LESS than 200. I've also come across MGW's for less than 200 (used that is)
