1999 GT air bag removal

I want to remove my steering wheel to install a Momo wheel. I have been told I need to un-hook the battery and remove the fuse prior to removing the air bag. Is there a fuse or do I just un-hook the battery and wait 15 to 20 minutes?

The Ford service manual says:

To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).
