Well, things went good and bad last weekend at Brainerd. Got my car up to tech and was told that the battery needed to either be caged or boxed, but they let me fly with just steel straps for ONE RACE ONLY. Missed my first time trial while getting her teched again. Second time trial came up and I blew my heater core. Had to dump her because I couldn't see, second trial wasted. Third time trial I hit the gas too hard off the line and the tires just sat and spun... ran a 17.12
Well, what could I do? I dialed in for 17 seconds flat. My first race I was up against a Chevy Pickup. He sat there, turned to look at me and revved the truck up with a dirty look on his face. I couldn't help myself... I laughed. He was dialed in at 17.0 as well and I blew his *ss away off the line. I looked in the rearview and saw him WAAAYYYYYY behind me, so I dumped her and coasted through the line, ran a 16.90 after dumping it.
When I got back, I found that my radiator cap had a leak in it. So I ran up to the parts store and got a new one. The next race I was, unfortunately, paired up with my wife in her '73 Opel GT. We agreed that we would make it a fair race, no one giving any quarter. Well, she went and red-lighted. I was so depressed that I couldn't make a decent run (should've been a free time trail, but I just couldn't do it... I'll know better next time).
The next bracket I was up against my wife's greatest nemesis. It was a girl in a Mustang Mach 1. The car was extremely consistent, all she does is put her foot to the floor and let the car do the rest. So, my father-in-law told me to push my car as hard as I could and wheel race her. As this was my first race with the car, I didn't know it good enough. The girl in the Mach 1 dropped WAAAYYYYY back and I dumped it. She saw this and put the pedal to the floor. But I was too close to the line. I crossed it 1.8 seconds before she did. But, as I didn't know the car, I dumped it too late. I was still dialed in at 17.0 and I ran a 16.90! If I would've dumped it 15 feet earlier, I would've had her! I treed her too, BAD! I cut a .024 light and she had a .8 something! Her lights are normally pretty bad, in the .6's on average. Next time I'll have her... next time!
