2.1 and 1.7 KB

from what i understand the 2.1L really is just an improvement... the 1.7 was very limited in its power range and wouldnt make a lot of boost... the 2.1L will bring in boost a bit earlier and also allow for more power and boost on the top end...

it may be more efficiant but they still sell the same size pullies for it. it still seems to only have the range of 14psi on their site. that is being spun to the max too.

crapola Can you believe this guy said this? The king of SuperChargers and it doesn't make much boost...? :rlaugh:

From what I understand, they both make close to the same power but the 2.1 doesn't get as hot. And that would be about an extra ~150hp for the IC 1.7L at 9psi and the posted ratings are the same for the 2.1L but KB says maybe 5-10hp more... not much boost...? ...up to 14 psi for the 1.7L, nothing to scoff at. Engine mods are recommended for more than 400hp once you go past 9psi... (up to 14psi sucker)

only stating what ive read on other forums.

i've heard of way too many freak accidents from KB which WAS my first choice of brand for a blower....now im thinkin i'll go with a centri blower.

the mustang shop i go to has said KB is a very VERY crappy company to work with due to the fact that their superhargers have blown (aka destroyed... not a play on words) so many engines due to defects, and they are impossible to get ahold of, yet they offer to replace the customers engines and pay for the labor. when i dropped by to have some work done there were 2 stangs awaiting new engines and a 3rd on a flat bed on its way due to KB's superchargers being on the car for only a matter of a days.... anyone run into any of these problems?

This may sound stupid, but what is the least amount of boost you can run with the 2.1? Do they sell a pulley for like 5lbs of boost? I already have the juice, so my engine can't handle too much more lol. But I can buy a SC and when the engine blows, a VT block should handle both the juice and SC.

No, not a stupid question at all...
The base non-intercooled kit runs 6lbs. You can upgrade this with the intercooler and smaller pully down the road for more boost...
This is my plan, unless I have the funds to get the full 9lb intercooled kit right off the bat - otherwise, I'll start (and be quite happy, I think) with the non-int 6lb kit. (Coming in Feb 07)

How much power will a stock 2v GT produce with 6 lbs of boost? Does Vortech or Procharger make kits that produce 6 lbs?

Hey GDawg, are you using the stock '98 engine/heads/intake with that KB Blower? I have a '98 GT Conv also. Any idea what kind of power you are putting out?

Stated by Kenne Bell, I should be making 375 bhp. I just got the SC w/IC @ 9psi installed at the end of this summer and all the options (as usual). I'm still doing things like installing gauges. I really won't know real numbers till Spring. But I will post Dyno and track times then.

It pulls like a bitch now and it has all sorts of lower rpm torque.

On a KB I think they go as low as 6psi Non-intercooled but you can do pulley changes up to 14psi... (with intercooler) Can centrifuge superchargers claim that?

You can't blame KB for blowing up engines. What defects are you speaking of? Their blower is one of the most reliable on the market.

You need to remember that ANY means of FI reduces the lifespan of a motor, but most of the time the one to blame is the one who TUNES it, not the blower itself. Just remember that you can lose a motor just as easy running a Vortech as you would running a KB. Centri versus screw makes no difference.

Look at MPH. They claim to have NEVER lost a motor using their Mongoose kits, and I for one believe them. Is it to say that their kit is superior? No. The components are basically the same as any other company that sells/installs superchargers. Rather, their TUNING accounts for their claim. BTW, they install KB's too.
