Would a 2004 Ranger 2.3 liter 4 cyl fit into a 1989 mustang?

Yes...

but it may not bolt directly in. Did they still have the SOHC engine in 2004? If they did, it would probably go in but you'd have to figure out the wiring. If it's the DOHC engine, you're in for a lot of work.

Well, the DOHC is the Zetec, some people on turboford have already discussed it. It'd be a lot of work.

Not any more, your asking privilages have been revoked.

What needs to change? well lets see,
Wiring harness
motor mounts
Transmission
Transmisson mounts
Exhuast
Driveshaft
Gaspedal
Powersteering lines
tranny cooler lines(if automatic)
Speedo cable
Shifter cable (Depending on automatic or stick, either way though something)

Like red said, alot of work, pretty much anything and everything touching or indirectly touching the motor.

Pretty sure it's the Duratech, not Zetec.
