i have a 1987 2.3L motor and the short block assy is in need of rebuild, at this same time i can get a 1993 short block that was just rebuilt really really cheap. can i use the 93 block in place of the 87? i know the 93 does'nt have a distributor but the hole is there for one. are there any other differences that be of concern?

that should be it, swap over the distributer and any othe little parts needed. the blocks themselves are the same. btw...how cheap is really really cheap? I bought my longblock remanufactured by Ford off of ebay for $400 shipped. it even came with a full gasket set a set of motorcraft plugs and oil filter. they are on ebay quite often. cant go weong with a brand new engine for $400. so i wouldnt spend more than a couple hundred on a reman'd shortblock. just my.02. but if you are getting it for cheap then grab it. Im now wishing i would have just spent my $400 on a turbo block and built something way better than a 88hp auto. so that might be something to think about too.

thanks for the info. the series that i race in the motor has to be stock. i will over my head from the 87 because it has been warmed over by the rules for racing. i know the short block that i have right now is VERY tired. i plan on putting the 93 for now and at a much later date have the 87 block done up with all of the goodies.

i'm getting the block for $100.00 dollars. i know the person who owns the shop and some one had dropped it off to have it rebuilt but they have never come back for it. he does all my dyno tuning for my son and i with our other mustangs that we have and we just happened to be there and he said to take it and give a $100.00 bucks, so i took it.

its a stock block with all of the machine work done . it has stock pistons, crank and all new bearings and rings. the old race motor is very very tired so this should be a great improvement.
