? (I did a search and read several threads but to no avail; I do remember it being mentioned on here before(small/large journal) though(?))

Also, while we're here: What are, if any, the difference between the connecting rods on both motors(were the turbo cars the only ones equipped with the forged rods?)?

I have to make a decision about whether or not to use an N/A block and crank...if it is possible to add forged rods and pistons to an N/A shortblock, that may be the route I have to go...but would such a combination be as strong as a turbo shortblock(which I understand can handle 400 horse stock)?

It is the availability issue rearing its ugly head ...

The small main journal blocks didn't show up until '89 or so when the dual plug DIS motors came out in the Rangers. I have no clue as to the casting numbers, but I think it would be safe to say any block cast E9 or later would be a small journal block. I know for fact that '91 and later are small journal. I ran into that when I replaced the crank in my '91.

Beside the journal size differences, the turbo and n/a cranks are identical, and so are the rods.
