I recently purchased a 2.8" pulley via ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2456342530), and now I have questions...

looking at the pulley, can anyone tell me if it is a non-slip pulley?
from my research, it seems that nonslip pulleys require a Gates belt, and if that's true, does this mean I won't require a 100mm idler?

If not a nonslip pulley, they require Gatorback belts because a lot of guys are shredding their belts for fun (using nonslip pulleys and gators), and this WOULD require me to have a Metco 100mm idler right?

I'm a little confused on the whole thing.. I know I probably need anywhere from a 73.5" to 74.5" belt... does anyone know the exact brand and size belt I need? I'm sure I'll get a 100 different answers, but any help is appreciated.

thanks!

I'm sure Vic will jump in here shortly and either confirm or add to what I post. He's the pulley dude, not me. Let me take a crack at it though....

The non-slip pulleys I've seen will not have continuous ribs all the way around the inner belt contact surface. The ribs have like hash marks cut into them so it can actually bite into the belt itself. Example:

Gates belts are preferred on non-slip pulleys. You can still use a Gatorback, but it won't last very long. A 100MM idler upgrade is always a good idea with any pulley smaller than 2.93, but MAY not be required when a non-slip is used. Results vary...

Well I haven't heard of anyone destroying their Gatorback belt just for fun... kind of expensive for that! The 100MM idler will be needed for a standard 2.80. Otherwise you will see slip in the upper RPM's. Expect to see about 6lbs of extra boost with that 2.80.

For a 2.80 non-slip pulley you will use Gatorback SC Belt 4080735. Can't tell you what the Gates would be though....
