Hey guys, I haven't posted here in years but I NEED YOUR HELP! Years ago I bought a mint 2000 GT with low miles. I drove it for 2 months and ended up moving so I parked it at my mom's house and LET IT SIT IN HER DRIVEWAY FOR 4 YEARS! big mistake! Now that I moved back I have been restoring the damage thats been done. I changed the Rotors and brake pads, and bled all of the old brake fluid before even driving the car. After about 10 minutes of road testing, I noticed that my car wouldnt roll back in nuetral on a small hill which I thought was weird. Turns out that the brakes started slightly binding half way through my test drive. I took it back to the shop and opened up the bleed valve on the front brakes to see if there was pressure built up but barely anything dripped out. I re-bled all the brakes with my friend and spun the tires while the car was still jacked up and they spun fine. After 10 minutes of my next test drive it happened again. I took the car back, jacked it up, and could barely spin the rims by hand. This is only happening on the front brakes! My friend told me it could be my hydrobooster, someone else told me a proportionary valve. After doing some homework on google I found a guy with the same problem who let the car sit for years and his front brake lines ended up deteriorating from the inside, with no sign of wear from the outside. He said that pushing the brake pedal forced the fluid to brake the car, but the fluid never returned from the line and caused the brakes to bind. Does this sound right? I just ordered brake lines to check but I don't think the problem is this simple. PLEASE HELP!!!

If you have too much fluid in your reservoir it may cause your front brakes to bind. If you have a bad proportionary valve than I think only the back brakes would bind up.

Or the pistons have galled to the calipers. If the pistons can not move freely, the brakes will drag and not adjust correctly. Try compressing the pistons. Open the bleed screw before starting. Do not force the old brake fluid backwards through a car with ABS.

Check the rear brakes. The slid pins will gall/rust to the bracket making the rear brakes drag.

4 years is a long time. I am thinking common rust is the first place to look.

Note: I had a similar problem on my 2000 GT project. Car sat for 2 years. After motor install, the front brakes dragged. I removed the calipers and tried to compress the pistons. Very difficult. I ended up replacing the calipers.

i have a brake issue on my 2000 as well. the problem is sporadic, only happening sometimes. no rhyme, reason or pattern when it does happen. i hit the brakes and i can hear a spongy creaky sound. it actually sounds like it is coming from under dash but for the life of me, i cant find anything making the noise. the pedal also feels somewhat spongy when this happens. car seems to stop fine. this has not happened many times but enough to concern me.

any ideas? to the OP - Is this anything at all close to your issues?

sorry for the hi-jack

dragging calipers seem to be a common problem on these cars. mine were so bad that i didn't need to use the brakes in bumper to bumper traffic. to fix mine i just got some cobra brakes

Wow sat for fours years? Just to cover the basis and make it safe I would get new hoses and calipers to make sure they dont seize up on you.
