Can anyone recommend a good clutch for a 2000GT? Im pretty sure my current stock clutch is bad, whenever I take off there's a lot of chatter.. It used to only do it after the car warmed up but now its always doing it and its just a bummer to drive

Ive read about a "King Cobra" clutch being popular, I just want something thats reliable being the stock clutch only lasted 64k miles (is that normal?)

Anyhow heres the clutch in question (random google search): http://www.americanmuscle.com/kingcobra.html

Also can anyone recommend a reputable site for ordering the clutch, Thanks!

I put the King Cobra on mine last summer and I had about the same amount of miles on my 2000. The stocker should last much longer but I was never easy on her so I can't complain. I bought my KC from Steeda and I have no complaints.

I highly recommend the CenterForce Dual Friction. It is extremely streetable and when you need to grab, it GRABS. I believe it uses a center weight technology that causes the clutch to grip harder when it's spun hard.

My stock clutch lasted 130k even with the supercharger on it. I recently replaced it with a zoom kevlar clutch since I was in a bind and it was the only performance clutch I could get that day. So far it feels great but has been completely broken in yet. Pedal feels like stock. The reviews I've read on the zoom clutches are mixed but no more than centerforce or ram clutches.

On the subject of pedal feel, the CenterForce DualFriction is a bit lighter than the stock to me. And there was zero clutch chatter, even from the very beginning.

I'm experiancing the same problem on my 2001, but I've got 114K miles on the stock clutch. According to this page from the Ford Workshop Manual, there are several things that can cause clutch chatter and a worn disk isn't one of them. When the disk is worn you will notice it slipping. To test if your clutch is slipping, it states to apply the parking brake, put the trans in 4th gear, bring the engine to 2000RPM and slowly release the clutch. If the engine does not cut out within 5 seconds, the clutch is slipping.

Interesting.. but the fact that the chattering gets progressively worse as the car warms up makes me think its the clutch? ..Ill try the 4th gear method and see what happens.

It probably is something with the clutch, but the fact it doesn't have a lot of miles on it might indicate that something else might have caused the clutch to start going bad, rather than normal clutch wear. When testing just make sure there is nothing in front of you in case the car lurches forward
