disconnectiong the batter, and tapping the brake pedal a few times clears the Keep alive memory (KAM) in the ecc. This basically just clears what the computer has learned over the past few drive cycles, and will not try to make any adjustments to the fuel trims until it has a chance to learn some more. When you say it is running like crap, what exactly is it doing. It may or may not be running lean, but if it is you really need to find to cause, and not do like some many people who start adding mods, and some where along the line introduce a problem that causes them to run lean, and have a dyno tune to correct the lean condition, without ever fixing the actual problem.

So he should spend $400 - $500 dollars to maybe find out that his tps needs to be adjusted from when he installed the throttle body? Not saying that is the problem, but too many people assume the need a tune from basic bolt ons when they don't. A dyno tune is an expensive conclusion to jump to.

Any relation to the weather on how it runs? I've had an o2 sensor that was going out that acted like a bad plugwire when it was rainging out. Dry weather it would clear up. Are you getting a check engine light? With it being intermiten like that I would lean towards one of the sensors, ignition, or possibly the fuel filter. I'd change the fuel filter first unless it has recently been changed and go from there. Good luck with it.

The next thing I would check is the o2 sensors. A haynes manual will describe how to check them with a digital volt meter, but also check the wiring over good. There may be a problem with the wires to the o2's where they extended them for the headers.

Mine runs great with the blower, and a lot of fun to drive. The hissing is normal. Mine sizzles for a good five minutes after I park.
