How does the spout disconnect for the fuel inlet (where the fuel goes into the tank from the gas pump)…does it disconnect from the tank side? Won't fit through the trunk opening any other way that I can see.
you have to drop the tank will the filler tube and all. The older ones you were able to seperate it from the tank. The newer ones (99+, i think) you have to remove the tank and its componants as one unit.
Never mind. Patience is a good thing. The filler tube pulls out of the right side of the tank with a little effort. A little more than I thought. The filler tubes mounting brace will not fit through the hole in the trunk floor (diameter too large). With a bit of side-to-side moving, the filler tube came out. It's recessed about 5-6 inches inside of the tank.
All in all, I'm glad I'm doing the tank swap myself. If you have any skills with general hand tools, don't be afriad of this one.
