I am a (new to me) 2002 owner of a V6 without ABS and I need new brake pads.

I've never done this before but it looks straight forward.

Could you give me detailed instructions on how to change out the pads? I sure would appreciate it.

I see that it looks like the calipers are secured by two bolts. I presume I takes those off and lift the caliper off the disc.
What holds the pads in?
Do I push the pistons back in if needed?

Thanks for any help.

Mike

You are correct.

Which are you doing front or rear?

Front as follows:

Unbolt the two bolts, pads basically fall out.

Push piston back in with a piece of wood and Large C clamp.

Replace pads rebolt to correct tq specifications then bleed.

Rears:
Same as above but the caliper requires a special tool that rotates the caliper while being pushed in. You can rent one from Auto Zone for no charge.

THat is all. Then bleed the system as well.

Thanks

Both front and rear need it.
What are the torque spec for these bolts?

Is this push back piston tool have a name so when I ask for it they know what I'm talking about?

Also.....do I REALLY need to bleed the brakes?

Never done that before either.

THANKS!!!

Well you really may not need to bleed the brakes unless you really let them run low and introduce air into the system so how.

The piston toll AutoZone should know it as Caliper Compression tool Part Number (IIRC) 37001

Thanks.

No doubt I'll have more questions when I really get to work on it.
