My new baby, a white 2003 Cobra SVT, still totally stock, has issues. At what appear to be totally random times the engine just shuts off. Last night I was SB on 280 @ 95 MPH and all of a sudden all the dashboard lights came on and I could not hear the engine. The car felt like it was in neutral, but it was in 5th. The power steering went out, and the brakes felt sloppy. I slammed the clutch to the floor and tried a rolling start, but the starter just whined. Getting to the right shoulder was a little scary. It has done this three of four times, but at slower speeds, and never before on the freeway. There is absolutely no odd engine noise or feel before it cuts out.

I am taking it into Sunnyvale Ford tomorrow, first thing. Has anybody seen this before? Any ideas or directions I should point the service department in?

Thanks,

Craig

Holy ****!

Mine has stalled while coasting to a stop. Never has the engine quit while cruising. Don't take any crap from them when they say "we can't find anything wrong" or "we can't duplicate the problem". Hopefully they will find something and take care of it. However, I would always be worried that it would happen again even after it's repaired.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hello! Damn that is a strange issue. Most of the cobra owners reporting the stall issue occur when the car is breaking at much lower speeds. My cobra has only stalled like this once when I was braking @ under 20MPH. I had only like 200 miles on the engine at the time and the temperature was 31 degrees outside. My car hasn't stalled since though. Did you buy this cobra used or new? and how many miles are on it?

Nevermind about the miles, just saw it in the thread title! :-)

YEAh

Yeah this is a typical FORD quality F UP
They will probabl;y just reflash your computer...I think there is actually a TSB on it..

Dont have that problem on mine and I 'm first run...

Im sure they will fix you up...I would ask about the TSB though so they dont give you the run around and say it wont dfo it for them....or worse yet..put high miles on your car trying to get it to do it. Do some research before you bring it in... Maybe a call to SVT would be a good idea too...doubt it will do much though.

I am running a '99 cobra, when I first purchased it I had the identical problem. It turned out to be my fuse block under the hood , replaced it and have not had that problem again. Something to consider.

Doesn't sound like the typical stall to me, but I'm sure Ford will try flashing the ECM up to the latest calibration if you ask them too.
I've seen this before but it was because a performance chip the owner had installed was not seated fully on the ECM. Since this car is bone stock...
