How do I find out the build numbers for a cobra? I've never done it, and I was wondering where my mystichrome falls into the other mystichromes, and how early or late it was.
You can contact SVT at 1-800-Ford-SVT and inquire with them. For a few bucks (used to be free a few years ago), they can mail out a replica "SVT build certificate" to you.
These certificates, as you probably know, were mailed to the original/first owner of the vehicle - so if you purchased it used, one of the previous owner(s) may have elected to "keep" it as a collectible.
As far as determining the build number among only Mystichromes, I'm not sure (maybe seek out a Mystichrome-specific owner's page, much like the '96 Mystics had going on at Mysticobra.net - not sure if that URL still exists today, but they had a pretty comprehensive site set up soley for the '96 Mystic owners that documented each one of them, who chose to participate, of course).
