2005 Mustang Schedule Doc

I am posting this on behalf of another member who was kind enough to share this.

I don't think the person who received this letter understands what it says.

This letter talks about when cars will be allocated to small dealers (Select Dealers). It says that ALL small dealers will get allocated 2 - 05 Stangs.

It DOES NOT say anything about when any dealer can place orders. Nor does it say anything about when large dealers can order 05 Stangs nor how many 05 Stangs will get allocated to large dealers. Belive me large dealers WILL get allocated MORE than 2 - 05 Stangs.

Once again, my understanding is that dealers have been able to place orders for the 2005 Mustang since Monday May 24 and those orders are being acknowledged. However NONE of these orders are yet scheduled to be built and they have not been worked into the allocation.

That is, a dealer could place orders for 1,000 - 05 Stangs but there is NO guarantee that the dealer will get more than 2 of the 1,000 cars that they ordered. Ford will acknowledge the orders. An acknowledgement says "WE HAVE RECEIVED YOUR ORDER". An acknowledgment does NOT say when the car on that order will be built NOR does it say that any or all of the cars on the order will EVER be built and shipped to the dealer.

In July, the allocation process will start. THAT IS WHEN the dealers will find out IF and WHEN they will get the 05 Stangs that they have been ordered.

I think that some of the people who have placed orders for 05 Stangs AND have received DORAs have to face the reality that they may NOT get the car they ordered, or they may not get it for MANY months. It sounds like in July when the dealer allocations start being made is when you will find out if and when you will get the 05 Stangs that you have just ordered.

You will not know the price of them until August or September.

This is what Ford does pretty much on every new launch. Limit the quantity to dealers so that production can keep up and build iinventory. They did it in 99... I know cause I preodered and was quite pissed that although my car was built and done, Ford would not send it to the dealer until purchasers took delivery of the two stangs on the lot. My car was built in May. I got it in August of 1999. It says nothing about small dealers, it says select dealers. Select dealers will be able to order up to two mustangs only until production can meet demand. Dealers will not be able to order a free for all until spring of 2005. Yes, dealers will take orders from customers, but until spring of 2005, the dealer is only putting in two at a time. Don't believe me? When Ford starts production go to a Ford dealer and order one... then demand a VIN # be assigned. They can't do it cause they already have two order sin with Ford. I thought the letter was pretty clear. As far as pricing, yes, Aug or Sept.

Aren't "Select Dealers" the small dealers?

It appears that this letter was sent to many of the small dealers but not the large dealers.

Not necessarily... they strategically send the firsts of the bunch to certain regional demographics. It's smart marketing. They clearly don't have enough to go around so they limit the amount of cars to each dealer so that they can get them in front of the largest audience possible. A lot of dealers won;t be willing to sell one of their two mustangs... they would rather keep the one in the window. It will bring people in. The 35 year-old guy will want to stop in to check out the new Stang with his wife cause he saw it as they were driving by and before you know it, they traded in their mini van for a Ford Windstar. They have to limit the cars until they build an inventory.

Oh man :( I'm the 4 th guy to put in a deposit at my dealership last month. does this mean I was 2 guys 2 late? Ill be pissed because i was at the dealership weekly inquiring about deposits long before they would accept them, and basically gave these guys the ordering codes to enter on the 24th.
i think ill head in there tomorrow and get my ass moved up to #1 if only 2 will be available for ipo

You will get your 05 Mustang, it's just a matter of when.

Even if you are #1 on the list, there is NO guarantee that you will be the first to get your car. It depends on what model and options you ordered and how your car gets scheduled into production. Someone could be the 25th in line to order a 05 Stang at your dealer and they could get their car before you because they ordered a combination that Ford is producing first or a larger quantity of.

The ONLY way you can guarantee that you will have the first car from your dealer is to tell them that you will purchase the 1st - 05 Mustang that they receive no matter what model it is (V6, V8 Deluxe, premium, etc), no matter what color it is and no matter what options it has.

Forgot to add in "No matter what Price they charge you for it" :(

Patience! I ordered my 87 GT in October of 1986- T-Tops delayed it until February, then the Premium Sound system with EQ, two amps and six speakers delayed it because the more expensive Lincolns got first dibs on the cool stereo. I finally got the car in April- good thing too, I had told the dealer if I didn't get it by the end of the month I was going to go buy a new Z 28 off a showroom floor! :rlaugh:

First run of a new model year = uncertain time for delivery. :(

This is my 3rd time preordering a Mustang. The other two times I waited an extra 6 months and 7.5 months, respectively, over and above what was expected. If the vert starts in January, I wont see mine until June of 05.
