Has anyone heard if Ford plans to make a 2006 Police Interceptor Mustang? I heard somewhere that it was a possibility. Any and all info will be appreciated.

I saw on TV they were going to make the Dodge Charger a police interceptor. I'm not joking. I don't know about the mustang - don't they have to have a bench seat for the computer etc? Easy retrofit I guess.

Yeah, I haven't heard anything about the Mustang, but have heard the rumor about the Charger as well.

the idea of a police interceptor is to, well, intercept... you know, end high speed chases, so you would want something fast and good handling to chase down the bad guys... you wouldn't need the back seat or extra storage space, so the Mustang is a better choice. Am I wrong? if a simple intake and reflash will add 20-30 hp to the mustang, and it is lighter and more nimble, why would the highway patrol go to the charger?
I guess the charger has 4-doors, so you could make it into a patrol car and put the bad guys in back...
Maybe we should leave it up to the guys who get to cruise in them for a living! I bet the cops driving the car would vote on the mustang!

I'm sure that if they can make a Chevy Camaro Z28 an interceptor, which they do have in Fla and other states, then they can make one out of a Mustang.

From the Florida Highway Patrol website http://www.fhp.state.fl.us/html/vehequip/Camaro.html:
The Chevrolet Camaro is powered by a 5.7L engine, which according to tests performed by Michigan State Police, pushes the Chevrolet Camaro to a top speed of 159 miles per hour. The Camaro is also able to achieve a speed of 100 miles per hour from a stopped position in only 13.93 seconds while the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor takes 24.61 seconds.

If they have the money, anything is possible.

when i was in conneticuit i saw a green 01-04 GT with lights on the inside pull someone over. i never would have seen him.

when i was in florida last year i saw all kinds of mustangs and camaros as highway patrol cars. thing is, i saw a bunch of fox 5.0's still in use, just last year! so is it possible if they wanted a car like that they could just buy some used sn95's to use?

I love those old Fox bodies. Especially the 1991 - 1993s 5.0 LX coupes in the five spoke pony rims. Around here, its hard to find a stock one that hasn't been modded out.
I miss that body style.

Texas State Troopers use a variety of interesting cars for interceptors. Including Camaros. A Mustang interceptor would be interesting.

As far as what your likely to get hauled in in, it will be in the back of a dodge charger. Dodge is all over making a police version out of the charger, not to say some highway patrol MF's wont equip a mustang or GTO as an interceptor, but youll be seeing alot of chargers with red and blue lights. In colorado a Highway patrol Vette came out of nowhere and scared the pi@@ out of me so theyll use about anything even if its not all that common to see a bunch of them.

Agreed.... they will definitely favor 4-door cars. But those vettes and camaros with the flashing red lights will definitely cause a 'pucker' when you see them running up on you.

"PUCKER!!!" I've gagged on my interior materials being drawn from the depths. With my wife's "highway pinball" driving record, I can't afford a ticket.

Simple math, Bad guys with money = fast cars, Bad guys get caught = Take fast car and make police car out of. Same with boats, we have a Sheriff boat down here with four 300 hp mercury outboards on it. 1200 hp on a 26' boat.

I am hoping to get the money through a donation or a grant for two Mustang patrol cars. I have several alternatives that I am researching for the funds. its no if it will happen but when it will happen. My police department and the residents support the unit 100 percent. If anyone knows of a similar unit in thier city I would be interested in talking with them.

There was an 05 MRT Mustang Interceptor at the last SEMA show (scroll down for lots of photos):
http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=27930

One photo at:

I get the impression that MRT would build a police version if you had the $$$.

There is an 05 in the Portland Oregon area that is used as an interceptor vehicle, but it was not built that way by Ford.
