after several test drives in co-workers 05 GT's(one a convert, the other a hardtop) i seen a couple of things. one its a nice car that goes pretty fast, two, its WAY to expensive. when i ordered mine it came out to 29,900 and according to my friends, thats low.

but after my son convinced me to stop by out local SVT dealer, i was totally blown(no pun intended) away at how i could get an 04 cobra.

it was kind of funny in that when we were asking the sales guy, he was pretty good to, that they could get any of 3 SVT cobra's, one in the color that i want, redfire. he said it would cost 25K with 21,000 miles on it. he was supposed to call me today or tommorow.

what the heck do you guys think? should i cancel my order(which i was told i could if i wanted to even though it was at a different dealer if i bought from ford) and get a higher performance 04 cobra for 4k less? ive been reading about how the cobra can run low 12's while the new GT can only muster mid 13's?

tell me what you guys think, cause it sounds good to me. ive been all over the place with cars, i was even seriously looking at a GTO for a while. but i think if they can get this redfire cobra for 25k or less, i might just go for it.

the dealer said it was bone stock, that was one of the first questions because i know these tihngs could have been driven hard. he also said the owner was about my age, so i figure he probably took good care of it.

no mods, yes, but beaten on....that like trying to pick a used framing hammer that hasnt been used to hit a nail too hard....its made to be beaten, its within warranty, fly with it...sounds like a decent price to me.

im going 03 04 as soon as i unload my 99, i cant wait till 06 for the new one, i dont even know if i like it enough yet...not to mention, i wouldnt spend new car money on a car, i just cant take the hit, i like to pass that on to someone more well off than I am, and take the car as 2nd owner

thats kind of like me, i couldnt see spending over 30k for a new cobra in 03, but i got my GT out the door for 19,600. but now i can see that thats not to bad of a price. i dont really even mind the fact that im the second owner at all.

25000 is too cheap for an 04, esp from a dealer. I would watch out.

they said they get them from auction, my guess is they buy it for 20k and re-sell it with a markup of 5k or so. or maybe they are getting it for 24 and only adding 1K.

but i will take your advice and make sure i take a much closer look.

I would take that deal and then buy the Ford extended warranty to protect yourself just incase things start to go wrong in a few months.

Cheapest in my area that I have found is $28500.00 but it was in black and with the summer being pretty hot I need a lighter color.

I would be weary of only one thin- who sells an 04 cobra at auction? Almost any dealer on earth would put it on their lot, as opposed to auction route. Maybe it was a strict Hummer dealer? lol

A salesman will tell you anything. Of course sir, it's never been modified. Yes, sir, everyone knows how cheap you can pick up any car at an auction (sans bullet holes). Yes sir, I will call you back with the color you want.

I've seen salesmen try to say they have the perfect car for you and then start calling around looking for something close.

It's one of those, "Oops, the car was sold, but hey! I have a torch red 03 with 25k miles for 26999."

Look around tho and get an 03/04 cobra instead of the GTO. If you find one, pull the oasis report on it and see exactly what has been done to it. Have a mechanic show you all the mods, don't hear it from a salesman.

Go drive a 05 GTO and you will not like the shifter, sloppy suspension, huge rear seat area plus the 400 hp feels more like 300. You will like the interior ,which is nicer than the c6 vette but thats it !! I think a 05 gt is a more satisfying car all around. Now a 03-04 cobra is in another class , it's less money than a GTO so thats a no brainer. However I would buy from a private owner with low miles and no mods on engine. Also that GTO will have a trade in value of $26000 as soon as drive off the lot.Do your homework and you can buy a cobra @ a little over trade in value.Coupe$ 24000 conv $26500.Look @ the poor resale value of the 04 GTO that would also scare me away from the goat.

Can you even say that??? THe entire purpose to having an SVT or a cobra in general is to have a high performance car....which is short for someone buying it for a good time aka beating it to death. These cars are designed to be ran hard so i see no chance at avoiding getting a cobra that hasnt been abused. Hell even knew they have been abused by someone most of the time.

My opinion would be go with the 04 cobra...the new gt's are nice but not bette rthen the cobra.

If you had the choice of a beaten cobra or a babied cobra.. you would seriously take the beaten one?
