You are misinformed.

The montly sales figures reported by Ford, GM & Chrysler are actual dealer deliveries to the final customer (whether they are retail or fleet).

August 2004 was an anomoly because the 04 Mustang stopped production in May, dealer stock was running low and most customers were waiting for the new 05 model to come out.

If you look back at 05 Mustang sales, Ford sold close to 20,000 in the months of April and May. Sales dropped to 14,470 in June. The drop down to 10K for July & Aug is significant. The dealers around me have lots of V6s sitting on their lots where 6 months ago it was unusual to see even a single 05 Stang on a dealer lot, V6 or GT.

GM is the 1st US auto company to wise up. GM is reportedly drastically lowering the sticker prices on their 06 models to have them be more in line with what the actual street price is. If GM follows through with this plan, Ford will be forced to follow.

Ford already is pricing out their 06s cheaper than their 05 counterparts. However, what will be tough is weening the public off of "employee pricing" and "rebates" that stuff is like crack, now that the buying public is on it, how do they get off? It's going to be an interesting 4th quarter.

Brandon Ford here in the Tampa area has quite a few 2005 Mustangs (GT,V6,vert, and an assload of Roushes). Salesman's first words to me abou the 05 was that he could get the surcharge removed with no problem. I still refuse to pay MSRP so I'll wait a while. They also have several 2006 stangs to include GTs. They have like 4 storage lots and only put a few of the high interest cars out at a time to help drive demand. "We don't have that many of these babies left you know...." When they actually have a truckload of them.

BTW, 2006 GTs are marked up $3000.00!

maybe the lack of sales is due to the lack of gt mustangs. In some magazine (cant remember which) I read that 70% of the 05s that were sold were GTs.

I live near Fort Wayne, Indiana. My favorite dealership there is one of the largest in the state- they have two locations alone in Fort Wayne. I've purchased 3 vehicles from them in the past 3 years..........

Anyway, I went and talked to them about ordering an '06 GT Coupe because they have no '05 GTs left. Now, mind you that they have a bunch of V6's and even a bunch of '05 GT convertibles. Anyway, they said if I ordered today, I would receive the car "sometime after the first of the year" because of the way allocations are. They said they were able to get three '06 GTs total on their first go-around; two were coupes (sold) and on convertible (still there as of today).

I know that some people have waited months to get the GT they want, but four months minimum?? Seems a little long, huh??

Just go to http://media.ford.com and search "press releases" for the monthly US sales #s.

Ford does not break out V6 vs V8 sales. But from the dealer order guides we do know that from Sept 04 - Jan 05 the mix was 32% GT - 68% V6. In Feb 05 the production mix was changed to 38% GT - 62% V6, so Ford has increased GT production to meet demand. My understanding is one of the limiting factors in making GTs is that Ford cannot get enough T3650 manual tannies from Tremec as they would like.

So you can see that August was the 3rd month in a row of down sales. Ford is building about 16,000 Mustangs per month, so simple artithmatic will tell you that you'll be seeing a lot more Mustangs sitting on dealer lots very soon.

The whole point of this is to just tell you DON'T get caught up in the dealer hype and pay over MSRP for your Mustang. There will be plenty of Mustangs available soon, have a little patience.

If you really want a new Mustang right away, driving 350 miles to get one at the right price is a good decision. Even @ $3.50 a gallon it's a lot cheaper to drive the 350 miles than pay a different dealer $3K or $5K over sticker. But as I said, for me, I can wait my 06 Mustang won't be my daily driver.

If you are ordering an auto, that does seem long. But as I posed above, supposedly there is a shortage of T-3650 manual trannies which is limiting the # of manual GTs Ford can build.

You are a smart person, who has figured out some of the tricks the dealers are using to try to get us to pay too much.

Which is at odds with every other statement I've seen about the new Mustang.

Almost every other article and statement I've seen says that roughly 30% are GTs, and 70% are V6s.
