2nd set of $60 Plug-in MIL eliminators have failed. I am officially a disbeliever.

First, some backround info on my car:

97 Cobra, ~50k miles, recently tuned up. All factory o2 sensors are in perfect working order. Mechanically the car is in good shape.

About a month or two ago, I ordered from UPR their offroad X-pipe and a set of those "Dallas" $60 plug-in MIL eliminators. Going through the procedure perfectly, unplugging the battery before doing the install, I hooked up the pipe and plugged in the MIL eliminators. CEL was off for about a day, then came back on. After repeated attempts to fix this, even going to a shop to run codes, the only error code that came back was "rear o2 sensor malfunction". So he used the device that tapped into my ECU to clear the codes, and I went about my merry way. The next day, the light comes back on. So I unhook the battery, and switch the plug ins around, just to make sure everything is fine. Next day, light comes back on.

So a couple weeks ago, I sent those plug ins back to UPR. They sent me a brand new set within the next couple days. I unhook the battery, hook them in, zip tie them out of harms way, and sure enough my light is now back on.

I am at my wits end with these things, and am now a disbeliever in them. My sensors are fine, they were working perfectly and I had no check engine light prior to installing the x-pipe/plug ins. A dedicated Mustang shop that I took my car to to get my gears installed told me that the mil eliminators are worthless on most Stangs and the only true way to get rid of the light is to get a chip to shut it off.

So I guess this message is a warning to those debating on weither or not to get the plug ins. I have had NO luck after 2 sets of the expensive plug ins and numorous attempts to fix the problem. IMO they are worthless.

Yes, they are very reliable and I have heard of very few problems compared to the Dallas Mustangs where I have heard of numerous problems. They are not cheap, just inexpensive and reliable. That's what make them better.

Weird thing has happened. A couple days ago, out of no where, my check engine light randomly turned back off while I was driving. Now today, it randomly turned back on while I was driving. I asked a guy what he thought and he said sometimes this happens with our older (96-98) cobras becuase of the computers. It makes no sense to me though. Anyone have similer issues?

Mine haven't worked since day one.

I see this as a serious problem as we back our products 100%, and make sure every single customer we run across is happy and satisfied with our products.

You may want to contact us with the DTC's (trouble codes) in hand, and we'll get you taken care of. Email in signature file. If you live outside of CA, autozone scans the codes for free. Code numbers please, no descriptions. We've been selling MIL Eliminators as long as anyone in the business, and I can only count on one hand the people we couldn't satisfy who contacted us for technical support. In fact, you appear to be the only one.

To the original poster of this thread, email me the code numbers your car is/was pulling, and I'll get you squared away if the problem rears it's ugly head again. I can most likely get you squared away without having to spend a single cent with us or anyone else.

way to step up husker. i haven't bought any type yet and don't plan to. if i feel my car is performing poorly i will go to autozone just to make sure it isn't something other than the catalyst codes. the light doesn't bother me.

And you have every right to do that, as rear o2 sensors on 1996-2004 Fords are merely cat monitors, and don't affect performance. The only reason to run MIL Eliminators is for a cheap peace of mind.

If you don't run MIL Eliminators, while your car will run exactly the same, your MIL will always be on and you won't know if anything else goes wrong with your car. You are covering this by stopping by autozone every once in awhile and pulling the DTC's.

If you run MIL Eliminators and an O/R H or X pipe, the MIL Eliminators will suppress the P0420 and P0430 DTC's, and keep your MIL off unless other non-rear o2 sensor problems arise.

Cheap insurance. Nothing more, nothing less. Thus the reason why we developed our cheap splice-in fix back in 1998 that many have copied and duplicated. DMP was the original seller and designer of the plug in MIL eliminators, and the circuitry is virtually identical to ours with the difference of the connectors. Both are great products. Partshopper.com wouldn't sell them if they didn't work.

Keep the rubber side down, fellas.

P.S. I've been on hiatus with the birth of my new son who has been keeping us busy these days.

Wow, I'm in Olathe

Nice to see a fellow stangnet'r in my area. I am planning on picking up an O/R pipe of some kind. Do you have a shop where I can just pick up some mil's from you? I'm in Olathe and would be a nice easy way to get them.

My signature in the other forums has my name. My apologies.

Ask for Dan Smith

As far as an off-road X pipe, choices are only limited by your pocketbook. Pro3i, Magnaflow, Bassani, VRS, Dr. Gas. I'm not a fan of Mac products, but others swear by them.. Give me a buzz and we can talk..

huskers mills work and so do steeda's ive had both of them. huskers are cheaper cause they are splice in.

LORDJish if you are interested i have a almost new o/r bassani x pipe on e bay right now. stainless steel not that aluminized crap. take a look a mine next to others on there you can tell it is new by the color. anyway i did set the reserve at 200 cause it is hardly used. i paid alot more.

anyway sorry for tha advetizement i just thought i could save a stangnet member some cash.
