I have 3.73 gears now would it be worth it to swap to 4.10 or would the change be little to none ? The car has heads, intake, and cam with a stock T-5. I would like to get my 60' time down. Thanks

before you change the gears do you have any suspension work? upper/lower control arms? running on street tires, drag radials or slicks? what kinda 60' were you pullin before

I have 4.10 when i had my stock engine, they ran fine. But when I put 308 with port stock heads/e 303 cam/ and intake, I ran out of gear so fast on 1/4 mile. I am thinking about switch to 3.73 or even 3.55 when i install the S/C.

People have pulled 2.0 60 fts with 3.08's...with little work. You can get 2.0 60ft's extremely easy with 3.73's with some drag radials and suspension...

3.73 is probably the best all around gear. Don't get me wrong, 4.10's are great on an NA car but if you already have 3.73's don't bother. Spend the money somewhere else. Besides, if you ever go to any type of power adder you will likely run out of gear with 4.10's.

i got a 1.60 with my 3.73's and slicks. all i have done for suspension is installed lakewood traction action uppers and lowers and i installed ford racing progressive springs (650lbs not good for drag racing) and i have kyb gas struts and shocks. basically i have everything wrong for drag racing. but you can't be 2 upset with 1.6's. i say stay with the 3.73's.

If you are worried about the 1/4 mile I would look at where in the rpm range you are going through the traps. As stated above by 86bluecobra he pulled a 1.6 with 3:73. If you are going through the traps at redline or where your peak is I would not go up on gears. You could also run shorter tires at the track to get some what the same effect.

Since you already have the 3.73s that is what I would stick with. I love my 4.10s but with a 100 shot I am way out of gear by the time I finish the quarter mile.

What type of tires are you running? Get a nice set of sticky tires and your 60' will come down.

I pulled a 2.0 60' time with 3:73's and MT drag radials. Thats with the car in my sig also, not overly modified by any stretch.

hp helps 60' greatly.
a carbed 351 with vic heads and a 150 shot pulling a 1.6 on slicks is an underachiever in my opinion.

4.10's with a 26" tire and 6250rpm is somewhere handy to 114mph...
If you are running a stock computer and up over 110 now the 4.10's may not be the answer...

Really need more info on your combo and current performance to give a good answer.

1.7 with 373's and 1.8 with 410's and stock motor.2 tenths faster with the 373's but I have an AOD.IMO I would stay with 373's with a 5spd.

stock motor t5 and suspension, etstreets and 5500 launch.
3.73 = 13.18 @ 102.5mph
4.10's = 12.96 @ 104mph

More info

The engine has GT40X heads, GT40 intake, E Cam, stock lower end, 125NOS. Stock suspension, 235/60/15 mickey DR tires. Times: 12.10@119.60with 1.9 60' and 12.31@121.03 with 2.09 60' Going through the traps almost redline 4th. I thank everyone for the help. I was curious if the 4.10 would be better but I guess I'm afraid of the gear.

I agree with you. I was running around 9 to 1 afr because of the 1700ft altitude that and my car sat all winter insured it on thursday drove to the event friday and raced on sat. It never got a tune up at all. In fact my magnetic pickup in my msd dizzy was all rusted and the car was missing. so when you factor that into it i guess i did ok but i'm sure there is more in it. oh i didn't have vic jr heads at the time i had holley systemax II heads.

Not bad at all.
85mph with a 25.6" rear tire is dang near 3000rpm.
I usually cruise 70-75 which puts me down handy 2600rpm, only 300rpm more than it was with 3.73's at 75mph.

Yikes... I would hang off on the 4.10's unless you do something about the stock rev limiter. Be catastrophic(sp?) to have fuel cut back running n2o and going thru the traps.

I was not trying to be a jerk, and, that certainly explains why you had a tough time.
