Need some T5 specific advice. I built a carbed V8 2wd 2002 Ranger (short cab / step side) w/ an AOD for my kiddo's first car (solid bumpers & airbags). It's a lot of fun to drive! I'm gonna let my son learn to drive on the AOD and then later swap it to a T5 (assuming it dosent get wrecked). Also, Im not sure how long the used AOD will last anyway. This is a budget truck and I have access to a lot of 3.8 T5's and I need to start collecting parts. I have experience similar to this swap as I put a t5 (from C4) in my 65 mustang.
Question...hopefully from folks who have done this: Can I make a 1995+ 3.8 bellhousing & T5 work on my setup? I'm not considering driveshaft length or hydraulic clutch operation now (truck already has a hydraulic master cylinder as it was a 5-speed / 4-banger). I know the 95+ 3.8 T5's have a longer input shaft and can be swapped to the shorter fox shaft, but I rather not. I rather bolt the 3.8 bell housing to my 302 & use the v6 T5 w/ the longer shaft and buy the larger 11" (164 tooth & 50oz) flywheel & truck starter since I need to buy these parts anyway. Don't need the speedo, as I am using a GPS speedo anyway.
Has anyone done this and what problems did you have, if any? I may just end up buying an expensive 94-95 5.0 bellhousing but these are way too high $$$.
