Had the day off today (Presidents Day) and decided to do something constructive with my Mustang. My cross under pipe (carb turbo) has developed a nasty crack in it and I was losing all kinds of pressure. It was loud as hell besides. So woke up and took it in to a muffler place and asked about making a new 2.5" stainless cross under (It only had a 2" cross under pipe!!!). $60 bucks was the price I was quoted. Ok, how much for a 3" cross under? I was told add $40 bucks for 3" inch vs. 2". So that would be $100 for the 3" cross under. The wheels were turning in my head and I found myself saying "How much for a 3" downpipe from the turbo to the cat?" Same price $100, but the only catch there was my hi-flo cat was a 2.5" inlet and outlet. Ok, how much for the 3" hi-flo cat? $80 bucks for the cat. So I was set. All I had to do now was to figure out how to explain the cost to the wife when I got home. $280 total for 3" stainless mandrel bent exhaust from the exhaust manifold to the existing y-pipe where it splits into two Flowmaster 40's. Played a little bit on the way home and the turbo spools up way quicker that it did before. I basically have very little noticable turbo lag now. This is by far one of the best mods I have done to the car and I recommend 3" pipe to anyone else with a turbo out there.

Nice !

thank's for the info. In a few weeks the header I ordered should arrive, I'll go 3" all the way !

Did the cat came factory installed ?

The 2.5" hi-flo cat that I replaced with the 3" hi-flo cat was a replacement to the stock cat that I installed when I had my dual Flowmaster 40's installed.
