I need to put in a set of 31 spline axles in my car, and was wondering which ones to go with. I DO NOT wanna go with the most expensive set, but don't want cheap stuff that'll break on me either. What is a good set to go with that'll include the c clip eliminators? I know Strange Axles has a kit for about $400, and I think they're pretty good...but not sure.

Also, how hard is this swap for me to do? I've done all the work on my car...except for the gears. Do I need special tools to do this? Should I just have a shop do it for me?

I have dealt with moser on a few occasions..My last experience with them was bad though...

Not to hard to do, just pull out the c clips..With the new axles with c clip elims you will need to trim your axle housing a bit..

Didnt mention the diff.... so im guessing you have a stock trac loc? If so, you'll need a new 31 spline posi unit/locker/spool to go along with those 31 spline axles

Oh really? I didn't realize I would have to get a new diff as well to swap out my 28 spline axles to 31.....I'm not to familiar with the diff so thats my bad. So you're saying I'd have to get a new diff!!! Oh man, this will cost me a lot more than I thought!

If you're on a tight budget, Moser makes a 28 spline axle also. That'd save you replacing the center section til you have more $$$.

You'll need to set-up the gears/rearend on the new carrier as well, you'll need some special tools for this, dial mic, etc...

The Eaton carriers have a very good name, carbon fiber clutches and fully rebuildable.

www.DrivetrainDirect.com has decent kits that come with everything you need. They offer 31 spline kits with different carriers, trac loc, Eaton, Aubrun, etc...

Moser, Strange, Superior you really can't go wrong... Most of the companies press the c-clip eliminators on for you so you will not have to worry about that. The rear tubes get trimmed a little for the elim so you'll need a grinder/sander, other then some Permatex, rear end lube, slip additive and I'd install new carrier bearings while it is all apart. You can buy a rear end set-up kit that comes with the bearings and some even come with the shims.

Would it be worth it to buy some new 28 spline axles and do the c-clip eliminations so I can keep my stock diff? The diff is not to bad, and I've had new clutchs put in with some extra. Do they make stronger 28 spline aftermarket axles that are stronger than stock?
