31 spline diff - opinions please

Alright, I am rebuilding an axle for my car. I am considering going to a 31 spline setup. I want to go with all FMS so my carrier choices are the 31 spline truck (M-4202-318) or the Terminator (M-4202-318C) with the carbon fiber clutches. The price difference is $50 more for the Terminator carrier.

Which way would you go? I am not going to get an Auburn or Eaton so please don't recommend those brands.

Since you are goin all FMS stuff, I would go with the Truck Differential. Will probably be sturdier than the terminator just on the fact that is is built with off roading and heavy hauling in mind.

See my thread title KABOOM in the talk section for pics of why I am upgrading to a Detroit "C" locker, Detroit TruTrac, or Auburn Pro. More than likely I will go with the TruTRac since there are not any clutch packs in it. For axles I am going with the 31 spline mosers. The FMS axles are good too so I think you will be fine with them.

As far as I know, the Terminator is the truck axle with CF clutches. At any rate - was it the stock axle that you broke or was that an aftermarket part?

the 03 cobra diff is the same as the truck diff, just with the aforementioned cf clutches. i have one with the frpp axles and i think 95strokerpsu just bought one. http://johnbleakleyford.com has them pretty cheap.

I just got the cobra diff, moser axles, 4.10 gears, axle bearing and seal kit, and new wheel studs from poweredbyford.com for $778. I paid a little more because I had them drop ship the diff from Ford so I could have it by this weekend.

Should be a good set-up, I only got the rear out today and have decided to just take it to the shop to have everything installed.

That was the stock axle that I snapped.
