I am planning on buying a 331 kit hat comes with pistons and basically everything. I have been told to bore the block .030 over, get a new flex plate, and i forgot the other stuff. What injectors should I use for an NA application? Do I need to get the block and everything balanced? I have been told I need a 28.2 oz harmonic balancer.

Can you think of any things that you had to get the the kit did not come with?

You'll need to definitely get it balanced and a 28oz imbalance would probably be easier to obtain than a stock 50oz, so this means you will need a new balancer and flexplate. The block may need to be notched (some 331 kits require it, some don't). I can't suggest injectors without knowing what heads are going on it. You'll need all new gaskets, etc. I'd put in a new oil pump, oil pump shaft, etc too. You will probably need a pilot bearing and perhaps new cam bearings as well.

What harmonic dampner do you guys recommend and also, when you say flexplate, you mean flywheel correct?

been here, done this. Make sure to get the rotating assembly balanced by a professional. 28 oz flex/fly wheel and 28 oz balancer can be purchased but in my case my machine shop cut down the weight in my balancer and flywheel so i have the stock flywheel and motorsport balancer. The only problem with this is that if i ever break the flexplate or balancer i'll have to get everything re-balanced. If you havent upgraded to a double roller timing chain then do it. new oil pump and heavy duty oil pump driveshaft, i think i purchased a motorsport one that looks to be twice the strength. I also bought a main girdle with main studs. I dont know for sure how much this helps but the block isnt broken yet. The only problem with a girdle is that the oil pump pickup might not fit with the stock pan. just take your time and dont forsake anything because of cost. What saves you $10 here, may cost you $100 in the future.

With the timing chain, I keep on seeing that the double roller timing chains stop before 94. Will any roller timing chain work on any year 5.0 or do I have to change the timing cover or something? Also, do the 28oz balancer's have the same bolt pattern as the 50oz's? Also, I have a centerforce steel flywheel and I think when I installed it, there was a weight on the back of it. Can I have my engine builder take that weight off and put on a weight that will let it balance out to 28oz?

SINCE YOU ALREADY HAVE THE CENTERFORCE FLYWHEEL I WOULD RECOMMEND HAVING THE MACHINE SHOP CUT DOWN THE WEIGHT (DONT THINK IT IS REMOVABLE)ON THE BACK OF THE FLYWHEEL. THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THIS WITH NO PROBLEMS. I HAVE A DOUBLE ROLLER (CLOYES, I THINK) ON MY CAR WITH THE STOCK TIMING COVER. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THE WATER PUMP MOUNTING ON OUR TIMING COVERS. I'M NOT TOO SURE ABOUT THE BOLT PATTERN ON THE 28 OZ BALANCER, BUT ONE WOULD THINK THEY MIGHT NOT BE BECAUSE IT IS THE EARLY STYLE...YOU'LL HSVE TO LOOK INTO THAT

Engine Might have to get a Dart block but don't want to and if I do, then 363 instead of 331. Thoughts on what I've already bought so far.......
