347 Combo

I am currently trying to make a combo that will make about 400rwhp. I want it to be a 347 Stroker. Any suggestions of what kinds of heads, intake, or cam? I am thinking about AFR 185s but how much more power will 205s give me and with those will it be good for the street? I am kind of lost on what intake to get, maybe a Edeldrock RPM? I know I am going to get a custom cam, I just do not know where I am going to get one. Any suggestions? I have been searching the forums exhaustively and no one really has a definitive answer on what will produce 400rwhp with a 347. Thanks for the help.

Is emissions an issue?

I would use victor jr heads with either a holley/TFS R/Victor 5.0 manifold, custom cam, valve springs, 1 3/4" longtubes, 3" mid pipe ect. 400rwhp is simple but if you use mediocre parts you get a slow mediocre combo :)

Use at least 4.10 gears and use an aluminum flywheel.

Heres a fairly easy way to make 466rwhp out of a n/a pump gas streeter 347.. http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=820761

How much does it cost to convert the stock 302 block to a 347 minus cam, heads, and intake? im talkin parts?

thats a question best answered by your local machine shop as to achieve a 347 u will need them to bore/ and possibly balance the new stroker kit, and id probably let them assemble the shortblock as well.

NO there is not.

It's just b/c when you stroke, there are so many options/issues - oil pans/coolers, radiators, oil pumps, girdles etc. You can do the Hot Rod mega cheap thing, or the high performance built to perform and last thing..so many variables....

Anyway to the original question about 400 rwhp. Your in luck b/c there are many 347 owners here these days. My first reaction is what do you want to do with that hp. You noted that you wanted it to still be good for the street..hmmm how much tack time do you have and how important is it to you? I know that my 347 does not have 400 rwhp (which is only a peak value anyway) but I wouldn't trade it for one that did b/c mine is built for being fun on the street and has low end torque to spare. First be very clear about its use and lets go from there..(read - you could build one but you might not like it)

Here is how much my shortblock costed:

88 stock block: $100
AD performance rotating assembly: $999
FTI custom camshaft: $350
Machine work: $1300
Main support: $100
Bearings and stuff: $150
Total: $2999

And that's not counting the heads, intake manifold, injectors, oil pump, timing chain, fuel pump, roller rockers, etc....it's not cheap.

If you go custom cam

Your GUY will discuss all the specifics and make combo recommendations based on your goals or expectations you give him ... so ... get specific about what you want :nice:

I am in the same boat as you. I do not have that much of an interest taking it to the track. I want it to be a fun driveable street car. 400hp was just something that sounded good to me at the time. I have been reading a lot about peak hp and tq. I like the idea of trying to shoot for that, sounds much better. Sounds like a fun car to drive. What is your combo? I just am kinda torn on doing an H/C/I or 347. I like the idea of more cubes, and I like the idea of the H/C/I being cheaper. But if I do something to my car I want it to be done right. It will be stored for the winter and will be done at the same time as my AODE to (TKO600 or GFORCE) swap. Need any more info? I just want the SOTP feeling and being able to keep uo with an LS1...

well, if you do the 347, the h/c/i swap will be a necessity anyway or you will have wasted a ton of money on a motor that will perform horribly. if you dont have any or limited interest in taking it to the track, and your bottom end is in good shape, i would recommend afr 165's, an fti custom grind cam, and an edelbrock performer. with a good tune you will be at 300whp if not slightly more. if the block is in need of repair, Grn92LX pretty much nailed it.....
