351 shorty headers

The 351w sits in the same location as the stock 302. The same motor mounts and trans/bellhousing are used.

The industry standard is for the swap headers to bolt up to a factory 302 mid pipe. I have not seen any headers that did not follow this standard.

I am using mac unequal shorties. I have no complaints, but others have declared that they do not fit as well as the more expensive brands.

I have a pretty detailed article on my website on the 351w fox body swap. There is a link to the site in my sig.

Let me know if you have more questions.
Are you planning the swap now?

I'm aware that the 351 sits in the same location as 302. I was just wondering in your particular application did you use an aftermarket K-member that maybe lowered the motor or set it back to get the headers to connect to factory 302 midpipe.

So do the headers have to be labeled "swap headers" to be able to use factory midpipe or will any 302 shorty header work just fine? I was looking into getting a 1 3/4" shorty possible from AFM but not sure if I can use them because they do not mention they are for 351 swap. Also do you know of any other manufacturer that makes 1 3/4" shortys?

I agree with 86bluecobra - Call them before ordering. If headers are not listed as 351w swap headers then they are most likely for a 302 application.

There are 2 factors that make 351w swap headers necessary. First is the increased height of the 351w block and second is the increased width of the 351w block.
Due to the 351w block being taller, the swap headers must be taller if they are to bolt up to the stock midpipe. Also, since the 351w is wider, the swap headers must hug the block tighter in order to bolt up to the stock midpipe.

If the part is not listed as a 351w swap header, then assume it is built for a 302.
Expect the swap headers to be slightly more expensive than the 302 headers.

i believe vristang is using 351w swap headers.

You know me well my neighbor to the north :D

We have not mentioned equal vs unequal.

Mine are unequal.

Are there equal length available for the 351w Fox body?

All headers are going to be tough to install. The larger pipes take up more room, and since we all want them mandrel bent for increased flow, the bends are restricted when it comes to the radius of the bends.
Just my opinion
