351 windsor swap

iirc you should have the 3spd top loader tranny, and if so you can use that tranny with the 351w engine with no problem. you just need a V8 bellhousing. you will likely have the six cylibder rear end though and that will have to be changed out for at least an 8" rear depending on how much power your 351w will make. you will need to upgrade to disc brakes in the front. the spindles you have will do just fine as they are the same basic size as the V8 disc spindles. i think scarebird makes a bracket for a disc brake swap for your car, so check out their website. you will need to upgrade the radiator to a V8 rad. i recommend a 3 core rad. you will need the V8 mounts from a 69 or 70 mustang, both the engine and chassis mounts. check with autokrafters as i think they carry the mounts you need. you will need to change the accelerator linkage including the bellcrank, and most mustang vendors have what you need.

Is is a 250 I6 car or a 200 I6 car? 200 I6 is a 4-lug car, 250 I6 cars used V8 suspension, 5-lugs, and a 8" rear. Otherwise everything else that was said is spot on.

The good "V8 like" 6 cyl. trannies first came out in 67' in the Mustang chassis.

The stock 65/66' tranny is a 45lb POS. It has mediocre strength for even the 200ci. I've even broke a mainshaft on a stock powered car. . . . .

I've rebuilt several when I was younger, and now prefer to save my time and money by updating to the larger 67'+ 3 speeds which are similiar in both the 6 and 8 cylinders. Mustangs (67'+), Mavericks, and Comets were a good source for conversion parts for the 6 cyl tranny upgrade.
