351c heads help to identify

I am working on what is supposed to be a set of 73 pantera heads.What has me stumped is that they have the large 4 bbl int/ex ports but are using the small

2bbl size valves (ex. 1.655" int 2.040") they are open chamber heads casting #D3ZE-AA. Everything I have read tells me all 4bbl heads use the large valves.

They are unmolested(never machined) so do I tell the pantera owner (just paid top dollor for"original"car) that he got screwed or can they be right for this car?

I don't know if they are "correct" for his car, but I've heard of those 4 bbl/2bbl heads before.

There were open chamber US 4V heads with the smaller valves. I don't know what is correct for the Pantera though.

I guess I'm repeating what D.Hearne said.

wrong, the aussie heads have 2v ports and valves and the 4v closed chambers.

i'd say the heads are probably correct for a 73 model. what are the casting numbers on the heads? should be a d2 or d3 casting

Bnickel is correct. They are US Casting '73 heads. They put the smaller valves in these heads.

#D3ZE-AA were found in Pantera's I believe....

"I don't think you want these heads for your pantera. You probably
don't know but the 1973 4v heads with the part number D3ZE-AA, have 2v
valves in them instead of the bigger 4v valves, but still they have the big
ports. These were a odd-ball head. They are great to rebuild and put the 4V
valves into, because they have extra metal in the seat area's for cutting,
but by the time you pay for the heads, shipping and machine work to put the
big valves into them, you'd have to much money in them. But it's up to you,
not many people know about the D3ZE-AA heads."

351c 4bbl/2bbl

I think i have them figured out.They appear to be correct fot 73 pantera with egr valve which this one has.Not for my use just a customer And I wantedd to be sure he correct part for oe car. Thanks for all the help.

there were 5 cleveland heads. 4 bbl closed chamber with non adjustable rockers, 70 and 71, 4bbl boss and 4 bbl ho with closed chambers and adjustable rockers, 72 4 bbl and cj with open chamber and non adjustable rockers. in 73 and 74 they used a 4 bbl head with big 4 bbl ports and 2 bbl valves, and of course ther was the 2 bbl version of these heads from 70 to 74. i have worked in the automotive industry for 28 years and bought my first cleveland, a cj powered 72 ranchero in 1981. i have built, and raced many on both dragstrips and circle tracks and for my money a 2bbl is the way to go unless you are running above 6,500 rpm.

The HO heads were open chambered with adjustable rockers. And you left out the last versions, the 351M/400 heads used from 75 to 82.

The '73 4V heads have smaller valves than the '70-'72 heads.
