Anyone run long tube headers with a 351C and manual transmission?

I'm still a long way from acting on this, but I've noticed that my cast iron manifolds have some cracks. They are really small cracks, but I really don't want to start off my new exhaust with a leak or two.

Then eventually I want to put in a Tremec and build a hydraulic clutch. Will it fit?

Are there any disadvantages to long tube headers that I should know about?

I've got long tubes on my 351c in my 65....its not manual....but it is an AOD....so width wise I know you got plenty of room. I also have enought room at the back of the block that I could run a clutch setup without interference (at least that's what it looked like when I measured for one). They are www.fordpowertrain.com headers...not cheap...but nice stuff.

Only drawback if your motor is well built is ground clearance.....if are running a single plane intake and aren't really geared for it, you might notice some loss in off the line torque but gains at the top.

Thanks Nick. Ford Powertrain, huh? I had been considering Sanderson, but they don't show prices on their web site (usually a bad sign)

I'm going with Hooker Competition headers on my 393 in my '72 with a Toploader... Their application chart shows that they have a set for a '70 that also fit with a floor shifted standard. I think mine are like $190 from Summit.

Could you post the part number please? I spent a couple hours today looking and couldn't find it.

I have a 69 that I am installing Hooker Long Tube Competition Headers in right now. I have a automatic, but you should be able to see a reference if you want to by looking at mine. The part I ordered was the 6913 Black coated. Not Ceramic. I think if you have the 2V heads like I do these are the ones that will fit your car.

The PN's for the Hooker Comps for 67-70 with a 351C are:
6913HKR for 2V heads
6920HKR for 4V heads
It also mentions that you need power steering bracket #10961 if you have power steering, but it only says this for 2V heads, it just says the 4Vs fit (guess the bracket isn't needed, they fit around the PS gear)... These are baked on black paint, for metallic ceramic coating, put a -1 after the last NUMBER, before the H. Both work with standards and autos, according to the chart, along with A/C. Good luck!
