351w 1969 stop runing

351w was running great then it started to pop then shut down checked coil cap put new electronic in cap it will start but wont stay running and it is rough when you give it some gas it stalls out can any one help

Have you verified the cam and valve timing. Sounds like the timing chain may have jumped.

I have a feeling it could be something like that it pop and idles like the timing is off .
Thanks I will check it out .also where can i get a timing pointer for a 69 351w this one wasnt put on I got one from cj pony but it looks to small.

I checked the timing the #1 piston and rotor on #1 was good iam thinking n=maybe a electrial or drop a vaule can any one help

Pull the valve covers and check all the rocker arms for looseness.

still runing very bad 351 w

Iremoved the covers all looked good pulled the plugs they looked fouled changed them still runs like it s out of time could it be the distribtor geers inside ?

While you had the valve covers off, did you give the push rods a spin with your fingers? If they are bent, they will be a lot looser than if they are still straight. If you have a helper, have them crank the engine, while you have the valve covers off, and see if they all move the same....

if it responds to gas what about your carb? soaky floats? stuck electric choke?

found the problem

pulled the distributor and it broke 3 teeth off and 2 on the cam

Now you need to find out what caused the distributor to lock up. It could be internal to the distributor, or the oil pump could have locked up, or the cam locked up (least probable).

also keep in mind that you need to have the correct type of gear on the distributor. If you have one made from the wrong material the cam will eat the teeth off. In this case it sound more like something siezed though...

Help need help on rebuilding I have a 1500 sq ft shop with lift but I have health problems can anyone help out ?

Sorry to hear that. Twisted oil pump drive shaft? Let us know when you get a final autopsy performed..
