3G Alternator question????

I'm about to install a 3G Alt. in my 92 fox. I got the Alt. from a 96 Lincoln Continental. Can I make this 3G alt. a 1 wire alt. by running a 6 gauge wire from the post on the alt. then to my battery? Any help is appreciated...Thanks!

Did you install a self-exciting regulator?

I'd go with a 4 AWG cable or numerically smaller. The OEM cables were a little small, especially since some alts would bench higher than rated.

What is a self-exciting regulator? Does it replace the stock one on the 3G alt.???
