It's there to prevent the alternator from "overcharging" and putting out more than X number of amps to the battery. You don't HAVE to put the fuse (or a fusible link) in there, but if this were to happen it could really fry your wiring system. Lots of people have done the upgrade without using a fuse/fusible link. But, you'll be taking a risk if you don't put it in there.

For the record, both of my cars have been upgraded to the G3. The first car i didn't fuse (did the wiring myself). On the second car i used the PA wiring and fuse since it was a LOT easier and faster that way.

I've done it both ways and think the PA Performance wiring kit was well worth the extra money.

It can't, it is there for when the rectifiers in the alternator short. Without the fuse it can get real ugly! Smoke, fire and brimstone!

Ive bought alot of wiring and stereo equipment in the past and honestly the price PA performance gives you is very fair considering the quality of parts they give you. You guys must be going pretty budget if you are using "regular" 4 gauge wire. Quality wire is not cheap! Yes you can add a fusible link to the "regular" wire.

its called a malfuction. ive had a fire in my bronco due to an alternator going bad. when you have a fire, there is more money to be spent fixing things than the cost of if you did it correctly in the first place. fires are definetly not fun. luckly i caught mine right when it started, pulled off the road and shut the vehicle off. its a bad situtation you hope you never have to deal with

only reason why i ask is because the 4 guage wire from alterstart is already on the way..if i knew i needed a fuse i would have ordered wire from pa..can i buy the fuse holder with fuse in it and cut the wire and connect it on either end to the pa performance fuse?

You can buy the fuse and holder and splice it in. You'll have to buy some butt connectors and may have to have them installed if you don't have the correct tool. It's not hard, but is a pain, which is why i bought the PA kit the second time around.
