I have a 07 Mustang GT. I just changed the differential to 4.10, it had 3.31. I also changed the drive shaft since I had it out. I went to test drive the car and it has great response but when I take my foot off the gas, it sounds like it is whining. I cannot tell if it is from the differential or drive shaft. Does anyone know what I can do?

Well, it came down to me not torquing the pinion nut, enough. I was afraid that I was going to screw up the collapsable spacer. When I think I was done I had about 1/32 space between the oil seal and drive shaft flange. I went to test drive and it was great. It was a great relief to hear it with no whinning noise, letting off the pedal. I am very happy.

I still don't do my own gears even 16 years later, I fear the gear! 
My gear guy is mint, comes on call and never had a problem.
