4.10 gears questions !

im talking about if im going in second at 3000 rpms and I floor the gas will it? thinking twice about getting this low of gears I dont want to spin the tires whenever I floor the gas pedal and waste my tires

Well although I only have 3.73's, but I do probably have like 60 more HP than a stock 98 I have to TRY to chirp the tires in second and doubt it would ever do it in third... Do yourself a favor and get the 4.10's, I often regret having 3.73's...

I was always able to chirp going into second with 4.10s on stock width tires, and sometimes I could chirp third (rarely) But, with the wheels and tires I have now (see sig.) Im lucky to chirp second, and I dont think third is possible. Of course, this is all going to change tomorrow when I pick my car up from the shop where it is having a 9 psi intercooled KB installed! I am actually a little scared about what this setup is going to be like (9 psi KB+4.10s= :hail2:  :hail2: )

Im still not 100% sure why the 4.10 gears will make your car accelerate faster? is it just giving more torque?

torque multiplication - they give you more low end and put you in the powerband faster. With 3.55s in my GT I can bark 2nd pretty good without powershifting and occasionally I can light the tires 1-2-3. Then again, I'd say I can bang the gears pretty well, and I only have 245s in the rear

i doubt it on a stock 98. its probably difficult to floor it just in 1st and get them to spin, unless you either have ****ty tires or are on slick surface(like my malls parking lot........) just roasting them in 2nd is doubtful. 4.1's are high, but theyre not this all powerful mod thatll give you gobs of power. it simply allows you to use your powerband faster, and increasing your torque multiplication. people feel the car is "lighter" during acceleration with taller gears.

now as far as chirping between shifts, 1-2 easily. 2-3 probably not. in my 02 gt i have scratched 3rd only twice, the first was i hit 3rd as i went over a painted crosswalk, the second was going toe to toe with a brand new wrx around a sweeping curve, hit 3rd hard and almost took both of us out, the ass kicked out a good 25*, had to let off to avoid a bad situation. in a straight line on a nice road with my goodyears though chirping 3rd is almost nill.

I don't get this whole "chirping" between gears thing. You guys talking manuals, or auto's?

I would think you could chirp a manual by flooring it before poppin' the clutch between gears, or is this not the case? Enlighten me, o' wise ones.

When power shifting a manual car very quickly your tires will sometimes spin a bit or chirp/ bark/ whatever you want to call it. I'd imagine it would be hard to accomplish in an auto.
