4.10's and their effects

what effects will the higher gear ratio of a 4.10 have over a ratio of 3.73? do 4.10's put more stress on the drivetrain/transmission. i have one friend constantly telling me that over and over and that theyre too much gear, gas mileage will drop alot, and daily driving ill be living in the high rpms.

do you do a lot of highway driving?

also, have you looked at any gear calculators to get some actual numbers?

never listen to frineds on gear selection unless they.

1. have the gear in there car and you can try it out

2. build cars and know what they are talking about

i have had many people question my choice of 4.10's with some really stupid reasons for why i should not have them.

with 4.10's you will loose a little mpg on the highway depending how you drive, we are only talking 1-2 mpg, it's not going to drop to 10 mpg or somthing like that on the highway, and around town will be about the same.

Gas mileage really depends on what speed you normally drive in at a certain rpm. If I don't step on it every time, i can increase my gas mileage over the 3.27s because the speed limit 45-50 everywhere, which 4.10s in 5th gear is around 1600rpm compared to 3.27s in 4th gear is around 2100rpm. If you drive on the highway, it won't be a dramatic drop.

I wouldn't think 4.10s would put that much more stress on your drivetrain than 3.73s, they just let your engine move easier.

Bottom line is when you get 4.10s, you'll wonder why you've ever considered anything less.

I agree with all the good stuff said before my post. It's all in how you drive the car.. I use to go 80mph all the time on the interstate but when I got the 4.10's I started going 70 and I still get the same gas mileage. I love these 4.10's and wouldn't trade them for the world

That's what i did. It keeps you from getting a speeding ticket.

Don't listen to your friend. 4.10's might be too much for some cars, but it is perfect for our cars. The stuff said above is the truth.

huh? what? a gear thread? oh yeah, 4.10s all the way man. later

really, 4.10s are not too much for our cars. in fact some guys are running 4.30s in their daily drivers.

I would definately go 4.10's over 3.73's.. I've got the 3.73's in my 5-spd GT and a buddy (helty) has 4.10's in his 5-spd GT.. Same year and transmission, but his pulls SOOOOO much harder and feels so much better with the 4.10's I would love to go 4.10's sometime down the road

The only time I would consider 3.73s over 4.10s is if I had a 50+ mile freeway commute each day where I normally travel at 75+ mph, or if I did 3 hour freeway trips every weekend. If 90% of my car's purpose is city driving and track runs, go with 4.10s.
